Food is the New Rock

Ep. 91 - Considering the whole "Special Sauce" thing, it should be no surprise that singer G Love is into food.  But did you know he actually has his own line of real deal hot sauces available in stores? It's called G Love's Special Sauce (naturally) and comes in three flavors- Original, Carribean and Thai sweet chili.  We talked to him about how that came about, but he tells us what it was like growing up in Philly with a mom who taught kids cooking classes out of their house.  He also tells us about how knowing what jicama was got him a job at a fancy Boston restaurant, and how he used cooking and sushi to woo his 8th grade girlfriend. At the end, we tell him about the 90s video we uncovered of him cooking shirtless.

G Love's new album is called "Sugar" and is in stores now.  Get more details about that at http://philadelphonic.com and get info about his hot sauce at http://gloveshotsauce.com

Ep. 90 - Craig Thornton is this week's podcast guest, the chef behind the critically acclaimed "underground" Los Angeles dinner loft known as Wolvesmouth. Craig is not only an outstanding chef, but his plates of food are regarded by many to be works of art- a notion we spend a lot of time talking about on the show.  He also tells us about the time he got 86'd from the now closed Cane's in San Diego for beating the crap out of a guy... and then we tell him about how we pissed off Trent Reznor, and ask if he can help us apologize for what we did.

Craig's latest project is a second installment of Cut Your Teeth, a collaboration between him and artist Matthew Bone that goes from May 7th to June 14th. Get more info and buy your tickets at http://wolvesmouth.com

Ep. 89 - Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. is this week's guest. He talks to Zach & guest host Jeff Miller (from Thrillist) about dulce de leche, juicing, and Japanese food- which he knows a ton about.  Plus there's a pretty sweet George Michael tangent.  Albert will be doing a two week tour of the UK in May. Ep. 88 - Lisa Loeb is remembered by most people because of her song "Stay" from the Reality Bites soundtrack.  But those of us who are into food just as much as we're into music remember her as one of the OG food/music pioneers, thanks to her show on the Food Network with her then boyfriend Dweezil Zappa.  Since then she's made more music, started her own eyeglasses line (of course), and released a series of children's books and CDs.  And, naturally, she still obsesses about food.  We talk to her about her favorite restaurants in New York, L.A., Providence and Boston, plus she brought us doughnut cupcakes, and we brought her homemade almond butter and Chez Pim jam. And at the end of the podcast Lisa tells us about the benefit that happened in Vegas for Chef Kerry Simon last month, who was recently diagnosed with MSA. You can get more details about how you can help fight the disease at https://www.keepmemoryalive.org/

Ep. 87 - Top Chef fans will undoubtedly remember Brooke from Season 10 of the show, when she was runner up to Kristin Kish. And she returns to TV this week as a judge on the brand new MTV show House of Food, where a group of young aspiring chefs will compete for an apprenticeship while living together Real Wold style.  Zach sat down with Brooke in her Redondo Beach restaurant Hudson House to talk about what music she listened to growing up, MTV, and fellow Top Chef contestant CJ's appearance on the podcast.  (If you haven't heard it, it's worth going back and listening to at least the first few mins!)
